I visited Colgate on a beautiful Saturday morning. It was "move out" day for many students. Parts of the campus were buzzing with activity, but obviously not the parts shown in these photos! I don't think there's one person in any of my pictures.
Colgate has a nice campus, built into a hill, but the hill is nothing like Mount St. James. As for Hamilton, it's a small, remote town in the middle of farm country. I think mattb was a little harsh, though, when he called it a "dump of a town." There's not much there, but it wasn't too bad as far as small towns go. Matt visited in the dead of winter, though, and I was there on a warm spring day. Weather can make an enormous difference when forming an impression of a town.
(By the way, that mattb road trip article is the same post where he gave his three key elements to Holy Cross's 2001-03 PL hoops domination. Very interesting, considering Holy Cross is executing NONE of those elements right now.)
Some of these pics have scan blemishes. Sorry about that. Not sure what's causing that. Click on any photo to enlarge it.

The interior of one of the student centers on the top part of the campus.

Quad in the upper campus area.

Entrance to the lacrosse field. Expand this one to read the plaque explaining the field's name.

There was discussion on Crossports a while back regarding the lax fields and grandstands at various PL schools, so here's Colgate's.

Jon, great pics of the Colgate campus and I was especially intrigued by the shot of Andy Kerr stadium as I have been there 2-3 times in the past when it was no better than a mediocre high school field with bleachers. Gate Raider of Colgate 13 (can't recall which) suggested I pay another visit after describing Andy Kerr as I did above. It would seem that their description is pretty accurate. FWIW, I have spent quite a few days in Cooperstown on business trips in past years and, don't know about you but the baseball HOF was a big disappointment especially when compared to either the football HOF in Canton (the best) or the Basketball HOF in Springfield (felt like I was in a chapel).
Getting back to Colgate, a great institution of higher learning and worthy adversary to HC and as beautiful as their campus is, it can't hold a candle to the campus on Mt. St. James.
Jon,
I don't know all the details, but did you know, back in the day, well before my time, Holy Cross had it's own ski slope?
I know part of it was located in the woods beyond Mulledy and started up close to where the Hart Center is. I'm not sure where it finished, but I'm pretty sure there was even a rope tow to get you up the hill.
Someone a bit older than me - may be able to confirm the details.
No, I wasn't aware of a ski slope past Mulledy. I lived there for two years ('90-'92) and don't recall hearing about it.
'1970 - I'll post a few Baseball HOF pics at some point. I'm a baseball junkie, and I was not disappointed at all. Haven't been to Canton, though, and haven't visited the hoops hall in 20 years or so (long before the renovation).
