Introducing Adam May

Here's Holy Cross incoming recruit Adam May:

Oh wait, that's not Adam, that's Chris Potter. I got confused. Here's the real Ohio All-Star, Adam May:

I have to admit, based on everything I've heard and read, I wish I saw Potter play. Some of his numbers are astounding:

  • Tied with NBA Hall-of-Famer Tommy Heinsohn for 5th in career scoring
  • Third in career rebounds (1019) behind Heinsohn and Togo Palazzi
  • Fourth in career assists (470), slotting in between Roger Breslin (475) and Dwight Pernell (430)
  • Most assists in a Hart Center game (16 vs. Iona, 12/7/1977). Wow, that's amazing. HC was ranked at the time, 15th in the country, and stomped Iona 105-83.
  • Third in single-season FG%, .591 in 1978-1979

'hoops: I actually agree that the comparisons are unfair. I was trying to be facetious, and linked to the Crossports thread where the comparison began. Can May rebound or pass the ball? Statistically, it seems like Potter was a triple-double machine, or something close. It seems like an incredible reach to mention May with Potter.

Part of the reason for me posting this was so I could put up a picture of Potter. If it wasn't for the media guide, I wouldn't have a clue what he looked like. You can almost see his swagger in that photo.

I was a year behind Chris at HC and saw him play many times. In fact, I was at the Iona game. It was probably the best overall game of his career. Iona was nationally ranked that year. Jeff Ruland was the star of the team and was getting alot of national press. In addition, Jimmy Valvano was the head coach before he left for NC State. Chris absolutely destroyed Ruland in this game. I beleive he also has at least 22 points, so you can add up his over all contribution to the 105 the team scored.

Chris didn't have much swagger. Except for when he was playing he was a pretty laid back guy. Like to hang out and play guitar. It was amazing to watch the competitive transformation when he got on the court.

Wow this is really interesting because Chris Potter is a great guy. He is actually my English teacher and is one a nicest people I have ever met. He and another teacher in my school have a basketball workshop where they just help teach the fundamentals of basketball to a group of students who are not fortunate enough to play for an actual team. I find this blog amazing because he told us once he was drafted to the Hawks, so i took it upon myself to research his name and this is what I come across. It made me laugh when you said he was laid back and played the guitar because that sounds just like him. He even played the guitar with a band at my schools talent show. There should a be a movie about his life, I would go see it anytime.
